FUN FACTS

  • The College of Wooster’s initials are: COW

  • Every year since 2002, U.S. News & World Report has asked college presidents and deans which colleges provide the best undergraduate research opportunities and senior capstone experiences. Only two have made both lists every year: Wooster and Princeton.

  • Money magazine has named Wooster one of the best places to live in the U.S., “with a thriving culture and diverse economic opportunities.”

  • COW has an inn on campus with a golf course, so students get to golf for free.

  • It also is one of the only colleges in the USA that offers Footgolf: (Footgolf is a precision sport in which players kick a soccer ball into a cup in as few shots as possible.)

  • COW beat Ohio State University in football in1890.

  • Wooster holds the national record attendance at a homecoming game for the sport of cricket.

  • Students receive Tootsie Rolls for turning in their senior year Independent Study. Some students dip the Tootsie Roll in gold to keep it forever. (The COW Independent Study is the culmination of a four-year journey to intellectual independence: a yearlong project.)

  • The Wooster Band’s uniforms are kilts.

HIGHLIGHTED ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

  • Wooster is America’s premier college for mentored undergraduate research.

  • Students can take advantage of opportunities to work with faculty on research projects as early as the second semester of his/her first year.

  • Each Wooster senior works one-on-one with a faculty mentor to conceive, organize, and complete a significant piece of original research, scholarship, or creative expression.

  • COW offers performing arts scholarships, but students don't have to major or minor in it.

  • The Student Investment Club works with four million dollars of college endowment and the Return on Investments goes back into the college’s scholarships.

  • There are many summer research opportunities.

  • Wooster has an Entrepreneurship Center.
